I was on a cultural visit to Joyce's Tower in Sandycove and when I told the guide I was a Joyce fan she recommended Fitzgerald's pub in Sandycove (spelling?).

Well what a treat it was!

Splendid olde worlde atmosphere but totally genuine. Joycean theme throughout, I'm told the proprietor Tom Fitzgerald is something of a Joycean scholar though I didnt get to meet him.

Fitzgerlads is a major location for Bloomsday celebrations with Tom himself leading the music in Joycean tradition.

Oh yea, the food and drink were great though I hardly noticed as I was too busy looking at the Joycean themed stained glass windows.

I recommend this to any fan of Joyce's Ulysses

Having spent many years in other locals around the area, I have finally found what I was looking for. The food is far from Jean-Christope Novelli Cuisine, but it is home-cooked quality food. Their new wine menu, that according to the bar staff has increased sales dramatically, offers a great range of fine wines. There is a huge collection of imported beers. The staff are charming friendly, and all Irish - how unusual nowadays. Well worth a look! - Karl, Dublin - Aug 3, 20075544

An old fashioned pub in many ways but a very young staff creates a vibrant atmosphere. Pints were perfect. Didn't actually eat as they only serve lunch but having looked at the menu I would definitly drop in for food sometime. Very pleasant experience in all. - Nick, Scotland - Nov 26, 20065554

Got a lovely pint, from a barman who was also very friendly. Didn't eat myself, but the food looked suberb. A real Irish Pub - Well worth a visit. - Eric Mulholland, USA - Jul 31, 20065554
